Bog Seat Challenge 2011 - We won it!

Well done to our Explorers who attended, and won, the 2011 'Bog Seat' Challenge! You all worked as a team and did it in true Ramillies style. The trophy, a chest, will be placed in a prize position at the hut!

    Summer Camp 2011

This year we spent a week at the Dockland Scout Project on board a ship. During our stay we went on the London Eye (Wendy didn't like it!), Thames RIB Experience (featured right) and participated in a whole host of activities. We had a fantastic week and it was such a shame it had to end!

    District Explorer Microlighting Weekend

A small number of our Explorers spent the weekend away with other Explorers from St Lawrence ESU and Birchington EASU. All who participated thoroughly enjoyed the experience despite the weather being a little miserable!

    Explorer Football Tournament

Well done to our Explorers who took part in the Explorer Football Tournment. We didn't do too well this year but it's the participating that counts, fingers crossed for better luck next year!

The Unit

In 2002 Thanet District Scout Council created the Thanet District Explorer Scout Unit which catered for every 14 - 18 yr old Explorer Scout in the district. A year on and it was recognised that there was a need for the unit to be split into sub units catering for the different areas of the unit. A result of this split was the formation of the Explorer Sea Scout Unit which catered for a water activity based program.

In September 2007 leadership was handed over to a new team, and the unit moved it's weekly meeting location to a hall in Margate that has been used by Scouts on and off for many decades. From this point on the title of Thanet Explorer Sea Scout Unit was left behind and the Ramillies Explorer Sea Scout Unit was born.

The unit is named after HMS Ramillies which was a Revenge-class battleship of the Royal Navy. It docked off the coast of Margate during the First World War and for every crew member onboard the ship, a Scout was invited abroad whilst she was docked. Ramillies ESSU has Royal Navy Admiralty Recognition through the Sea Scout Groups within the district.
